IBM Acquires Webify

This is a follow-up post about SOBAs. I mentioned about Webify in that. I wondered why IBM has not come up with something like this. Walla… Now IBM buys them. I think this is a great acquisition by IBM in the SOA space. This ties in very well into the SOA story that IBM is pitching to it’s customers all along.

I am excited about this acquisition and what it would bring to the WebSphere family of products. This product also has an overlap with some of the Products that IBM WebSphere has been developing (See my previous post on SOA Governance), the WebSphere Services Registry and Repository. The product team for that will probably will have a nice mix of technologies between the two and I expect a great product to be out.

Webify as such has been a great ISV of IBM and has worked very closely at many of the WebSphere customers, where Webify worked very well with the WebSphere family of products including the WebSphere Business Integration (WBI), WebSphere Transformation Extender (WTX) and WebSphere Process Server among others.

One more strength this acquisition brings is the customizable and reusable assets that are industry specific. This adds a lot of value to the industry solutions that IBM has to offer.
